The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada โ the first tournament held across three nations. Matches will take place in 16 host cities including New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles, Dallas, Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Toronto, and Vancouver.
The expanded format features 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four (Groups AโL). The top two teams from each group, plus the eight best third-placed teams, advance to a 32-team knockout round starting with the Round of 32.
Argentina enter as defending champions following their thrilling penalty shootout victory over France in Qatar 2022. Led by a mix of experienced stars and a talented new generation, La Albiceleste aim to become the first team to retain the World Cup since Brazil in 1962.
Argentina, France, Brazil, England, Spain, and Germany are among the leading contenders. Portugal and the Netherlands are also strong dark horses, while the host USA benefit from home advantage and passionate support.
The opening match will be held at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on June 11, 2026. The final takes place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, 2026. In total, 104 matches will be played across the tournament.
The grand final will be hosted at MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and New York Jets, with a capacity of over 82,000. Semi-finals will be staged in Dallas and Atlanta, while Mexico City will host the tournament opener.
